What gear is required to play soccer?
Each season, Southside Soccer Club provides a basic uniform, a numbered t-shirt and one pair of socks for each registration. The following is the Club’s recommended gear breakdown by age group:
U4 or Mighty Mites
(Under Four)
For players aged 2 and 3, cleats are NOT recommended. U4 players fall down a lot. Sometimes they fall on each other and little hands get stepped on. The performance gain of cleats in U4 is negligible. U4 gear recommendations:
1x Numbered team shirt (provided with registration)
1x Pair of Socks (provided with registration)
1x Pair of athletic shorts (black is preferred, but any color is acceptable)
1x Size 3 soccer ball (practice ball, any design is acceptable)
1x Pair of shin guards (required, strapped shin guards are recommended as they protect ankles)
1x Running/tennis shoes (required)
U6
(Under Six)
For players aged 4 and 5, consider the following gear:
1x Numbered team shirt (provided with registration)
1x Pair of Socks (provided with registration)
1x Pair of athletic shorts (black is preferred, but any color is acceptable)
1x Size 3 soccer ball (practice ball, any design is acceptable)
1x Pair of shin guards (required, strapped shin guards are recommended as they protect ankles)
1x Pair of soccer cleats (required, football or baseball cleats are NOT acceptable)
U8
(Under Eight)
Players aged 6 and 7 will have one practice per week. Consider the following gear:
1x Numbered team shirt (provided with registration)
1x Pair of Socks (provided with registration)
1x Pair of athletic shorts (black is preferred, but any color is acceptable)
1x Size 4 soccer ball (practice ball, any design is acceptable)
1x Pair of shin guards (required, strapped or plate shin guards are by player preference, strapped shin guards can be used for practice without heavy socks, plate shin guards a significantly lighter for games)
1x Pair of soccer cleats (required, football or baseball cleats are NOT acceptable)
1x Set of practice clothes
U10
(Under Ten)
Players aged 8 and 9 have two practices per week. Consider the following gear:
1x Numbered team shirt (provided with registration)
1x Pair of Socks (provided with registration)
1x Pair of athletic shorts (black is preferred, but any color is acceptable)
1x Size 4 soccer ball (practice ball, any design is acceptable)

U12
(Under Twelve)
Players aged 10 and 11 have two practices per week. Consider the following gear:

1x Size 5 soccer ball (practice ball, any design is acceptable)

1x Pair of soccer cleats (required, football or baseball cleats are NOT acceptable)
2x Sets of practice clothes
U15
(Under Fifteen)
Players aged 12, 13, and 14 have two practices per week. Consider the following gear:
1x Numbered team shirt (provided with registration)
1x Pair of Socks (provided with registration)
1x Pair of athletic shorts (black is preferred, but any color is acceptable)
1x Size 5 soccer ball (practice ball, any design is acceptable)
